India History of Republic Day January 26

The Indian Constitution was implemented on 26 January 1950. This day is celebrated with great pomp and show throughout the country. This year, French President Emmanuel Macron has been invited as the chief guest at the parade.

History and significance

Republic Day commemorates the adoption of the Constitution of India on January 26, 1950. India gained independence from the British Raj in 1947, but the Constitution of India was not implemented until January 26, 1950.

The first session of the Constituent Assembly was held on 9 December 1946 and the last session was held on 26 November 1949 and the Constitution was adopted a year later.

Dr. BR Ambedkar led the drafting committee of the Constitution and India also celebrates Constitution Day on this day.

How is the celebration?

Republic Day celebrations are celebrated with great enthusiasm in the country. On this day the President hoists the national flag. Apart from this, the President of India distributes Padma Awards to deserving citizens of the country.

Also, brave soldiers are honored with Param Vir Chakra, Ashok Chakra and Veer Chakra. Live telecast and webcast of the Republic Day Parade is also done every year. So that people can easily see the parade.

Know the time and theme of the parade!

The theme of the Republic Day 2024 parade is 'Developed India' and 'India - Mother of Democracy', which emphasizes India's role as a nurturer of democracy. The parade will take place on Friday 26 January at 10:30 am on the duty path in New Delhi.

This year the chief guest will be French President Emmanuel Macron and hence the parade from France will also include a 95-member marching contingent and a 33-member band contingent.
